Description
The DX1 is much more than an exceptional DAC capable of handling 24 bit 192 kHz PCM signals (USB-B) and DSD 2.8, 5.6 and 11.2. Thanks to its settings, it becomes a high-performance preamplifier/DAC and headphone amplifier.
The DX1 is one of the components in the Smart series, and is available in a white or black finish, with a beautiful methacrylate front panel and sophisticated ergonomics. A power/standby pushbutton and a rotary encoder are all you need to control everything! The first control, encircled by a red ring, is for standby, and changes to white when the DAC is operational. The rotary encoder is encircled by a white LED. This single control operates the selection of the many digital inputs: six optical S/PDIF and three coaxial, including one BNC, one AES on XLR, two USB, one A for connection with an Apple device such as iPhone, iPod, iPad or other "Made for iPod" devices, one B (for connection with a computer) and even Bluetooth APTX via our optional X-FTB01 "pure digital" high-performance plug-in adapter.
The menu offers the option of using the DX1 purely as a DAC, with a fixed direct output level, or of activating the variable volume and then using the DX1 as a Preamplifier/DAC. This rotary encoder gives access to volume control of the stereo line outputs (Cinch, but also balanced on XLR sockets), as well as adjustment of the two headphone outputs on 3.5 mm jack connectors. The DX1 complies with current energy-saving standards, but also offers the option of disengaging the APD (Automatic Power Down) function, which by default activates the DAC's standby mode after around 30 minutes without incoming modulation. Each action on the parameters is displayed on the screen. Ergonomics couldn't be better!
The DX1 also supports DSD, from 64 (2.8 MHz) to DSD256 (11.2 MHz)!
The internal architecture uses the latest-generation components for power regulation and the famous AKM 4490 for conversion. A premium converter, this DAC incorporates the Velvet Sound concept. The Velvet Sound concept consists in optimizing sound quality based on purely technical measurements combined with listening tests. Synchronization is performed by a highly modern and precise circuit, replacing the now obsolete quartz crystal.
The result is just what the discerning audiophile is looking for, with full-bodied, sustained bass, midrange that gives voices top-level presence and clarity, and precise, well-balanced treble that forces admiration. Dynamics, transparency and spatialization are also on the agenda.
At the price on offer, our DX1 has become a benchmark.
